National University students who were turned away from exam rooms last week because of unpaid fees will get to set their exam papers starting Wednesday next week.
Cabinet met with the NUS council and management last Friday and it was decided that exam papers will be reset and the 317 students who missed out will be allowed to sit their final exams before the end of the year. The NUS staff met earlier this week to sort out exam papers and scheduling.
And yesterday, NUS Vice Chancellor Leapai Professor Asofou So’o met with affected parents and students at the NUS fale.
Leapai announced that exams will begin next Wednesday for the 17 Foundation Year students who missed out and some NUSIOT courses. The UPY graduation scheduled for 11 December has been put back a week. Other programmes will commence exams early next year and their graduation to be held in late January.
Leapai pointed out that unpaid fees amounted to over $300,000 with some outstanding fees dating back five years. He appealed to parents to pay the students’ by Tuesday next week before exams.
However, he said, unpaid fees will not be a reason to turn students away from exams next week.
